Savithri and Kalpavriksha by Danseuse Janani Murali

Savithri is based on the mythological character who saves her husband from the god of death. This narrative is an attempt to understand WHO and WHAT Savitri means to the dancer, today.

Originally conceptualized and staged as a live performance, the production was re-envisioned as a dance film on which I collaborated as a Production Consultant, Dance film Director, Lighting Designer and Editor. The lighting and the direction was designed to portray different characters even though the production was a solo work. Using silhouettes for one character, the camera's perspective as another, the entire design came together to tell the story effectively through the medium of film.
